St. Patrick School Parent Link           October 22, 2009

From the Desk of:
Dr. Lonnie Hughes, Principal

Attire for the Field Trip is nice jeans, Spirit Day t-shirts and sweatshirts along with a jacket (no cargo pants, shorts, capris, sweats, sports theme attire or Spirit Day "pajama bottoms").  If a student does not have any Spirit Wear, the white school polo and/or school sweatshirt should be worn.  Also, wear comfortable gym shoes for walking.

GREAT PUMPKIN RAFFLE - TO BENEFIT THE FOOD PANTRY
The annual "Great Pumpkin" Raffle will run through noon on Thursday, October 29.  Seventh grade will be selling raffle tickets during lunch - one for 25 cents, three for 50 cents and seven for $1.00.  Over 20 candy-filled pumpkins and Halloween buckets will be raffled at the Halloween celebration on October 30.  Please help the food pantry by buying raffle tickets for this seventh grade service project.

YANKEE CANDLE FUNDRAISER
October 19 - October 30
1.
This is a service project for the fifth grade students.  Proceeds from candle sales (about 40% on each candle sold) will go toward the St. Patrick School debt, not to the class itself.

2.    Any family may sell Yankee candles.  As a matter of fact, since Christmas is just around the corner, parents are asked to remember that Yankee candles make wonderful Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers if you have a sturdy sock.  So do some of your Christmas shopping a bit early and give your loved ones a Yankee Candle.  It's the gift that keeps on giving.   Contact Mrs. Delach with any questions.

GRANDPARENTS' DAY - October 27

Grandparents are invited to come to the school lobby between 8:00 and 8:10 a.m.  When the second bell rings, they will go to the oldest grandchild's room.  After announcements they will go with that child and proceed to the other grandchild(ren)'s room(s) and then go directly to church for Mass.  There will be refreshments in the gym after Mass.

ATHLETIC ELIGIBILITY
Unfortunately, some Junior High students, because of poor midterm grades, have been declared ineligible for participation in athletics.  Students who are ineligible are required to attend practice and to attend any games which occur during their ineligible period.  These students cannot, however, participate in a game until they have sufficiently improved their grades to the point of earning eligibility status.  See Page 40 of the Student Handbook under the section heading "ATHLETICS" for more detailed information.

Parking Lot Safety

Can you imagine the impact on your life and the lives of your family if you should accidentally hit a child with your car in the school parking lot? I couldn't begin to describe the devastation such an event would cause.  Please follow the rules when you bring your child to school in the morning.   They're very simple.  If you're just dropping your child off, drive very slowly and follow the cones right on around the school and out of the parking lot.  If you want to park and watch your child enter the elementary building,  then do that, but stay parked until 8:15 a.m.  That will assure every child is safely in the building.

In the afternoon the same request is made. Please drive very carefully and don't deviate from the established pick up procedures.  One other thing. Please respect the student crossing guards who monitor one-way traffic on
Willow Street in the morning and afternoon.  These youngsters are not there to act as greeters.  Willow Street is one-way going south from Marion when the barricades are in place morning and afternoon.  Please take these matters very seriously.
