Fr. Pete's Welcome

On behalf of the staff and parishioners of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, I wish to welcome you to our web site and to our parish community. St. Patrick’s Church holds the distinction of serving as the “Mother Church” of the Joliet Diocese. Established in 1838 by the Bishop of Vincennes, Indiana, Rt. Rev. Simon Gabriel Bruté, St. Patrick's Church was the first Catholic Church created in Northern Illinois and is one of the oldest Catholic Churches in the entire Illinois Metropolitan Region. Currently, I serve this community as its seventeenth pastor, following the ministries of such priests as Father Francis Plunkett (the parish’s first pastor, from 1838-1840), Monsignor Philip Kennedy (who served St. Patrick’s for 44 years, from 1917-1961), Bishop Raymond J. Vonesch (a former Auxiliary Bishop of the Joliet Diocese who served St. Patrick’s from 1970-1974), and my immediate predecessor, Fr. James Lennon (1995-2006).

Here at St. Patrick’s Church, we are proud to support religious formation programs for both our youth and adults, daily and weekly opportunities to receive the sacraments and a Food Pantry and Service Program that takes care of the needs of those who seek assistance. In addition, because of our growing Spanish-speaking Community, we also are available to serve the needs of those in our parish who wish to celebrate the sacraments in their native tongue.

I invite you to take a moment and look through the many opportunities for prayer, study, and service that St. Patrick’s Catholic Church has to offer. If there is any way that you wish to contribute your time, talent, or financial resources to our parish community, you are most invited to do so. Please know that you are in our constant thoughts and prayers. Please continue to keep the intention of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in your prayers as well.

God Bless, Rev. Peter Jankowski
